The relationship between F1’s 1,000-horsepower racing machines and the car in your driveway just got a little closer.

McLaren Racing and eBay are partnering for the 2024 Formula 1 season and beyond. The cars piloted by McLaren Formula 1 team drivers Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri will feature eBay branding at four races in 2024, starting with the Miami Grand Prix on May 5.

Blistering Acceleration

The new partnership between McLaren Racing and eBay Motors will accelerate awareness about where auto enthusiasts can find trustworthy parts and accessories that increase performance and add more style. eBay Motors empowers enthusiasts to pursue their passions, whether building project cars or enhancing their everyday commuter cars.

McLaren Racing, the legendary maker of racing vehicles, knows a thing or two about optimizing cars for world-class speed. Since entering its first Formula 1 race in 1966, McLaren has earned eight F1 Constructors’ World Championships and 183 Grand Prix wins.

Powerful engines, precise engineering, and cutting-edge aerodynamics allow F1 racers to exceed 200 miles per hour. Formula 1 cars deliver blistering acceleration and gravitational forces that exceed six Gs during hard cornering and deceleration.

Riding a Wave

F1, the pinnacle of open-wheel racing, is the world’s most popular motorsport. Ten teams and 20 cars compete across five continents each season. The sport is riding a wave of popularity in America thanks to a new, expanding fanbase. The mesmerizing, ultra-popular Netflix documentary series Drive to Survive and the trio of races stateside has supercharged F1’s remarkable surge in the United States. Last year’s Miami Grand Prix drew nearly 2.5 million television viewers.

Zak Brown, chief executive of McLaren Racing, said:

McLaren Racing and eBay have a great synergy, with both brands having a commitment to a passionate community of followers. We look forward to going racing with the world’s most iconic online marketplace.

Star Drivers

Under Pressure, the third episode of Drive to Survive season six, focused on the dramatic turnaround in McLaren Racing’s 2023 season. As its vehicle engineering started to gel, the team’s two young, dynamic drivers shone in the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Lando Norris earned a hard-fought second place, and Oscar Piastri landed in fourth.

Lando Norris is a native of Bristol, UK. He first jumped into an open-wheeler at just seven years of age. In 2014, Norris won the Karting World Championship. Along the way, he competed in F4, F3, and F2. Norris joined McLaren Racing in 2017 as a junior driver and landed a full-time seat in 2019. He finished sixth in the F1 standings in the 2023 season.

Oscar Piastri joined McLaren Racing in 2022 and became a full-time driver the following year. His open-wheel racing career followed a path similar to Norris’. He started with karts in his native Australia before rising in the ranks in F4, F3, and F2. Piastri won the FIA Formula 3 Championship in 2020 and Formula 2 in 2021. He earned the ninth spot in last season’s overall F1 standings.

Four Inspiring Venues

The McLaren Racing/eBay partnership includes three races in the United States, commencing with the Miami Grand Prix and wrapping up the season with the Las Vegas Grand Prix.

  • Miami Grand Prix – May 5
  • British Grand Prix – July 7
  • United States Grand Prix – October 20
  • Las Vegas Grand Prix – November 23

As global brands, the partnership will enable both McLaren Racing and eBay to reach new audiences through unique story-telling opportunities with their respective fans and customers worldwide.

Chris Prill, global vice president of eBay Auto Parts & Accessories, said:

eBay is home to a thriving community of auto enthusiasts, from casual DIYers to professional modders seeking trusted parts and accessories. For nearly 30 years, we’ve been committed to inspiring and serving this audience, and together with McLaren, we will establish lasting connections with even more car and motorsport lovers worldwide.
