The sound is a little better than the uDAC2 it is replacing, but the overall quality feel of the volume knob has degraded from the uDAC2. It feels cheap, difficult to turn and not real smooth. Not only that it can be wiggled up and down do it has play in the case. This was not the case with the uDAC2. This DAC suffers from the exact same thing all other HI-Res DACs used on my iMac suffer from, failure to connect after listening to Hi-Res music. The DAC must be unplugged from the USB cable for about 10 seconds and then reconnected in order for it to be seen again. Other than that, it is a very clean sounding DAC for the price. Do not expect Audiophile quality out of this as it is nowhere close. However, it is quite better than the built in DAC in the Mac. I have also noticed that the volume levels are MUCH less than that of the uDAC2. I need to turn this up much louder to attain the same levels as that on the uDAC2. I guess if I could find a new old stock of the uDAC2, I would suggest that over this one. Unfortunately, after 5 years, mine started to die.Read full review
