I live in the country, in Wyoming. Power is very reliable, however, below zero temps in the winter are too. A backup generator is "piece of mind". This unit has to power a 1,5hp well pump, water line heat tapes, the furnace although wood is our primary heat. It also has to take care of lights, the TV,satellite receiver, computers and coffee pot. I went with 10KW unit because I am not a believer in pushing equipment to the max and I don't like the effects of low voltage in electrical equipment. This unit fit the bill. If you don't have to power a well pump you can get by nicely with a 5-6kw generator which is half the price.
" Just received my XG8000E portable generator and accessories kit within the last month. Had no problem preparing it for the next power outage. Had a "whole house" manual transfer switch installed as opposed to the 6-10 circuit transfer swith. The advantage is that I can choose which circuit within the entire home to power. Tested it and it works great. I can power everything in the house except for the AC, which in my mind is unnecessary for a short duration. It's nice to know "I won't be in the cold", can keep my food cold, and my basement dry (i.e. use of the sump pump) should a power outage occur. "

A great looking generator with nice options. Only thing I would have added is a backup pull start. Took it out of the box throw the wheels on added oil and gas and she started right up. Haven't hooked it up to the house yet as I just had my electrician hook up a whole house panel. Testing this weekend on the house. Hopefully it will run most everything like the other reviews I read. Will update review if any problems occur but I don't expect they will

Have it hooked up for whole house power. I shut down the main breaker to the house and plugged in the generator. With the exception of alternating well pump and hot water tank breakers, it worked wonderful. I chose the 10000 watt over the 15000 watt for fuel consumption. With the 25 foot power cord from generator to house, we could not here the hum of the generator from inside the house. I think we are ready for any and all power outages.
