I purchased this book as a birthday present for my girlfriend. She enjoys gothic literature, and I knew that this particular book had slipped under her radar. The fact that it is autographed by the author makes it an infinitely more excellent gift than if I had just ordered it from Amazon or picked up a copy at the local bookstore. She has read the book now, and she loves it (although the ending wasn't quite gothy enough for her, but I will refrain from putting in any spoilers in case there are others out there who enjoy that type of reading and have yet to try this book). Anyway, it is now a prized part of her collection and she can show it off to her friends for years to come. I rock.
This novel is unlike other popular vampire novels, it has an edge to it that would be inappropriate for the teens who enjoy the top vampire novels of today. But it's definalty a must read for the parents or adults who enjoy those types of novels! Much of the book is based in New Orleans, LA and has a nice southern type charm to it. This book was so great that I had to read it twice.
It was just what I wanted.

This novel is a very descriptive and dark as well as a new take on the american vampire. There is no danzel in distress or beautiful classic "happy ending". Poppy Z. Brite brings you the realistic view on vampires and a story that will pull you in until the end.
