This is a great board for putting two Xeon's to work for you. 16 DIMM slots gives you tons of memory and tons of SATA ports makes adding hard drives easy. And you get plenty of PCIE slots to continue upgrading if you need. Lots of fan headers too. And 5 Gigabit network plugs! Set up was pretty easy with my only complaint being that getting all the SATA ports wired can quickly be a bit of challenge. But it booted up the first time and accepted all the components the first time they were plugged in. It's been running a week straight now with lots of encoding being done and has stayed cool and problem free. So a great board for a server.

I bought this for a system build that I was planning for a workstation system that would run a pair of XEON E5-2670 CPU's. This is one of only a very few motherboards that are available to do that, and there are not a lot of them around. The motherboard was, by far, the single most expensive part of the entire build. The main thing I would warn potential buyers about is that there are a bunch of "hot to" videos on YouTube and many of them state "you'll need an ATX full-tower case for this motherboard. In fact, this board is way too big to fit in a full-tower ATX case! Look at the specs for the board, this is an "SSI EEB" motherboard (bigger than ATX) and there are not many cases available that it will fit in. The best I found, and one that I am personally VERY happy with is the Phanteks Enthoo Pro case. Anyway, back to the motherboard. It's a typical, previous generation server board. That means lots of memory slots, lots of SATA3 (and 2) ports, lots of network connectivity, etc. But it also means no USB3, no on-board audio, very basic on-board VGA video, no WiFi and no Bluetooth ... but they can all be added via PCIe cards. All in all, I'm very happy with the board and it's working great.Read full review

This is a good motherboard for those interested in building a server rather than a desktop system. It takes considerably longer to POST than a consumer motherboard, and, occasionally, requires a second power cycle as nothing appears on the monitor after pressing the power button on the case the first time. The email technical support is excellent. Thank you, William at Asrock. However, the manual which comes in the box includes schematics, diagrams, and technical details of at least four other Asrock motherboard products. This board should really have its own dedicated manual. Be very, very careful that you're reading the schematics for the motherboard you have actually purchased. Also, this motherboard conforms to the SSI-EEB computer case standard. Be careful when selecting a case, as this is not the same as the extended ATX standard.Read full review
